Band Trip to Lagoon
The Lagoon trip seemed to take forever to come, but the day finally arrived. After a long three hours on the road, our bus finally pulled into the Lagoon parking lot. As soon as the bus stopped, everyone started splitting into their groups and deciding who they wanted to hang out with. My group was Cooper, Kayleigh, and Henry, on occasion. After we were all situated into our friend groups, it was time to have some fun.
“What rides should we go on first?” Kayleigh asked. “I was thinking maybe Wicked?”
“Definitely; we could start the day off with a ‘wicked’ ride!” Cooper replied, laughing at her dad joke. “Let’s go.” We all darted as fast as we could to get in front of Jeremiah’s group so we could be the first ones on.
After going on Wicked seven times in a row, we decided it was time for a new ride, but we were getting a little hungry. We realized it was lunch time. We thought it was best to go to our group’s table and get our lunch. While we were eating, we were all talking about how Cannibal was a ride we were never getting on.
“As scary as it looks, I think it’d be a fun ride. It’s just the initial drop that makes me shiver,” I told them. Just thinking about that ride made me start to shake. “I want to throw up just thinking about the drop.”
“You’re just a chicken,” Henry called out from around the corner. “I’m going there in a few minutes if you want to come. Don’t worry, I will not let anything happen to you.”
“Heck, no. I'm not going.” Kayleigh and Cooper said together immediately after he gave the invitation.
“Maybe...” I answered but I couldn’t finish my thought because I felt his cold, rough hands on my arm. My body flung around and I was getting pulled in the direction of the ride I dreaded the most. My heart rate felt like it was beating a million miles an hour and my anxiety started kicking in.
“If you never get on it, you never will, and you just passed the line of no return.” Henry turned around, laughing, because he realized I wasn’t paying attention and didn’t know we were already about to get on the ride. He looked at me right before we got in the cart. “Here, take my hand. I want you to squeeze it as hard as you want anytime you get scared. Nothing is going to happen, I promise.”
*Click* I was now strapped into the ride. Oh no, I thought. There is no way of getting out of this now. I was positive that I was going to die on that ride. There was no way I was going to make if out of there alive. The ride started going up the elevator, and once we reached the top, a door opened, and the view was breath taking. I almost forgot that I was on a 208 foot tall ride about to drop. The cart started to move forward, and I could feel the sensation of gravity pulling on me. I instantly squeezed Henry’s hand. I couldn’t breathe, and I shut my eyes. After the drop, I start to relax a little, and I realized I was having a blast.
“Are you good now?” he asked after we got off.
“Yeah. Thank you for taking me up there.” He really helped me get out of my comfort zone and helped me do something I thought I never would. Thanks to Henry, I learned that with the right people, I could do anything.

Narrative Reflection
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part?
- Explain the process you went through to write this paper. Please be specific.
- To write this paper, I had to make a list of events that has happened in my life. Happy ones, sad ones. After I found a topic I wanted to write on, I had to think of stories that would excite the reader or get the reader to feel how I felt during the time. Next I had to create rough draft to organize how everything went and how much I wanted to tell the reader. This included plot points, dialogue, imagery, show don't tell and where the beginning, middle, and the end was. After I was done, I had to revise it and correct any mistakes I made.
2. What qualifies this paper as a narrative? What are the requirements for this genre and how did you meet them?
- It's a story. You have to use dialogue, imagery, and show don't tell. I met these requirements by letting my characters communicate with each other, showing how they felt, and using the five senses.
3. What is one part of your story that you think turned out really well? What do you like about that part?
- One part of my story that I think turned out really well, was the middle of the story. I liked this, because I felt like you could feel the nervousness of my character and the fear that I went through before Henry dragged me up that ride.
