THE MYSTERIOUS CALL FROM KEITH
“Hey Elsie. I know we aren’t supposed to see each other, but I needed you,” Lance replied. “Who’s calling you?” How was I supposed to tell him that Keith was calling my com when he told Lance not to talk to him. I grabbed my com and declined the call. I texted Keith saying “I will call you later or you can just text me. I’m with Lance and he is still upset about you telling him not to talk to you.” Almost immediately he responded. What I saw terrified me.
“I have no idea,” I told Lance. “What did you need?” I didn’t want Coran to find out that me and Lance were talking when we weren’t supposed to be near each other. Lance looked worried and scared. It wasn’t a normal type of scared either. It looked as if he had seen a ghost.
“So, you remember that Keith told me not to talk to him anymore, right?” he said.
“Yeah. Why?” I replied confused. Why was he bringing this up? I know he is still upset about it, but it doesn’t make sense, I thought.
His face looked as if he was confused as I felt. “Well even though he told me not to talk to him, I called him this morning. He picked and was so excited to see me. He said ‘Lance how is everything! I miss you guys so much, especially you. How is Elsie? Is she taking care of Red for me?’ It was weird almost like he didn’t remember what he said to me two days ago,” Lance finished. It all made sense now. What Keith had texted me back had said “Elsie, I know Lance thinks I told him not to talk to me but, I never told Lance to not talk to me. My com was acting weird that day. Something's going on and I will find out. Got to go, I have another mission. Tell Lance I miss him.”
I had to tell Lance. “That was Keith that was calling, but I ignored it because I didn’t know how you would take it. I text him instead. He told me he never told you not to talk to him. He said his com was acting weird the day you got that call,” I told Lance with a shaky voice. The more we both thought about it, the more scary it became. “We need to tell Allura or Coran about this. We might get in trouble for seeing each other, but there is something not right here.” I let the words roll out.
He seemed to agree without saying anything. “I don’t want to get in trouble, but your right. They need to know,” he replied.
As we left my room, Coran was right outside the door. He looked really mad and angry that we snuck a way to see each other. “What do you two think you are doing sneaking off to see each other. This is unexceptable, Lance back to your room immediately,” Coran said angrily.
We had to tell him now or never. “Um, Coran. We have to tell you something. I think you really would like to hear it,” Lance called out. We both had no idea if he would actually let us explain, but he did. He turned around looking curious. The anger in his eyes from before had faded, now they were full of curiosity. He took us to Allura at the teletube. When we got there, we sent Shiro, Pidge, and Hunk to training for a while.
Coran told Allura that we had to tell them something that they might find important. “Alright spill you two,” Coran said once he knew everyone was gone and not listening. “What is it that seems so important you had to sneak around.?” He seemed a little mad again, but once we told him he was glad we had snuck around. “So you’re telling me, you think Zarkon has something to do with this?” he replied. Just as he said that I got a call from Keith.
“Hey Keith, what’s up?” I asked. Something about his voice was off, but I had to be safe.
“Elsie, I need you to tell Allura to get the castle out of there. That call Lance got, was from Zarkon. He used Haggar to make an impression of me and my voice. He has been tracking you down and is almost to you guys. Throw Lance’s com into space and get out of there now!!” Keith said yelling the last word.
I didn’t know if this was the real Keith. How could I trust him? “How do I know if this is the real Keith and not Haggar?” I asked. I had to be safe and not fall into one of Zarkon’s traps again.
“Elsie, it’s me. How many people know that you were scared to be the paladin of Red when you first came?
“You are the only one, but Zarkon could have been listening.” I said. It seems like Keith and i’m not getting a bad vibe like I did with Lance’s call.
“Ok, you will just have to trust me on this. I will send you the coordinates to our headquarters.” Keith replied seeming hurt. I received the coordinates to the Blade of Marmora within thirty seconds of ending the call.
“Uh, hey Allura. That was Keith he said…..” I told Allura the whole thing Keith told me. I gave her the coordinates, 12:174:39. We got out of there as fast as we could. I was a little scared that I had just led them into a trap, but I felt a bit of relief when I saw Keith’s headquarters. He came out to greet us as we approached. He was with some girl named Alex. She has beautiful hazel eyes, flowy brown hair with blonde streaks, has perfectly straight teeth, and a comforting smile. She helped escort me and Lance to our rooms for the night while the castle fuels up. As soon as we got to our rooms, we showered and ate lunch. Keith had to go to a meeting with his boss, so he couldn’t see any of us. Lance was hurt seeing Keith again because he knew that they would have to leave soon. After Keith’s meeting, he came up to my room and gave me a hug and asked where Lance’s room was. I took him to Lance’s room and went in with Keith. As soon as Lance and Keith met eyes, they gave each other the longest and tightest hug.
“Keith I thought I would never see you again. I felt like I lost a brother. Having you leave was so hard.” Lance said with tears streaming down his face.
“I am so sorry Lance, I had to what I thought was right. I met my mom, Korlia. I also made a new friend, Alex.” Keith called out also crying. “I never meant to hurt my best friend. I am really sorry.”
Alex walked in and looked around. “Keith, you have another meeting.” she let him know. Keith then nodded and walks out of the room to go the the meeting. “Hey guys, I’m Alex. I think Keith may have introduced me to you. I don’t know you though.”
I started with the introductions. “My name is Elsie and I am the new paladin of the red lion.”
“I’m Lance, paladin of Blue. Keith is my best friend.” Lance let out.
Alex had a shocked look in her eyes. “Your the famous Lance, Keith keeps talking about? You have no idea how much he talks about you and misses you. He was so sad when you didn’t call him for a long time.” She seemed to really care about Keith. Maybe even more than Lance. Then again that is impossible. Lance and Keith have known each other far longer than Alex.
“Yes, that is me.” Lance said as happy as ever. “I had no idea he talked about me that much. You must really care about him.”
“He thinks of you as a little brother Lance, I thought I already told you this.” I said kind of annoyed. Yes it was rude to say that, but he needs to know that Keith really cared and still does care. Just as I said that, the headquarters got blasted by something large.
A siren blared and Keith’s voice came on a com. “Everyone this is not a drill. Everyone on their ships and start attacking. We need Voltron!” Alex had already left the room and was already down the hall heading for the ships. I head down to my room and put on my uniform. This was my first real battle piloting Red. Lance knocked on my door and said let’s go. We ran down the hall and to the castle. As soon as we got there, we went straight to our lions and formed Voltron. Zarkon had somehow gotten the coordinates to headquarters of the Blade of Marmora.

Semester I Students Choice Reflection 1. List one thing you’ve learned from writing this paper that you have applied to other writing assignments.
- One thing I have learned from writing this short story is dialogue. When I first started writing short stories, I didn’t know what dialogue was.
2. Identify a challenge you faced while writing this paper (this can be at any stage of the writing process). How did you overcome the challenge? What did you learn? - I had to figure out what dialogue was, and to overcome it I had to write some other stories to practice it. I learned how to separate the paragraphs when people are talking.
3. What genre does this paper fit? How do you know? - This would be a fiction/short story. I know it is a fiction/short story because it cannot be real and is not a full story.
4. Given more time to work on this paper, how would you improve it? - I would put more detail about what was happening and in the characters.
5. Why did you choose to include this paper? What do you want me to learn about you as a writer? - I chose to do this paper, because I like to let my mind run and this was the only story that I have let my mind run. I would want you to learn about me that I can create something off a random subject.
