Response to the play As You Like It
The Shakespearience actors performed the play As You Like It, written by William Shakespeare. The actors did a great job at acting and really impressed me. Personally, my favorite actors were the ones who played Orlando and Rosalind.
These were my favorite actors because of the way they presented themselves and showed the characteristics of the characters. Orlando showed his emotions, actions, and characteristics with precision, accuracy, and passion, creating the perfect image of what I imagined Orlando being like. Rosalind showed her beauty, curiosity, feelings, and needs and wants perfectly. It was really easy for me to put myself in her position and envision her situation. Knowing her background (of her father needing to leave due to the threat of him being killed) it was easier to understand her feelings and emotions in the scenes. Watching the characters Rosalind and Orlando come together and develop their personalities was very interesting and more understandable.
The theme of the 80’s was the best time that they could have set it. It was very spunky, fun, and colorful. It showed how things were back in the 1980’s and gave me an idea of how people dressed and acted. It almost made me want to be from the 80’s due to the style, colors, and outfits.
The costumes they wore showed me the type of people they were: Orlando, a wrestler; Rosalind, a beautiful princess. I thought the costumes were very well done and matched the character’s personalities. Rosalind wore a purple silk skirt and a soft purple tank top to express her beauty while Orlando wore a blue and white tie-dye muscle shirt showing his wrestler side.
The music was also set for the 80’s giving me a taste of the past. I normally don’t like 80’s music, but the music they played fit the theme and was played at needed times and not played when it wasn’t needed. It was perfect for when Orlando and Rosalind “fell in love” showing the affection between the two and the emotions that they have for each other. It gave everyone a laugh.
In conclusion, I thought this play was well written and overall an amazing play. The theme fit perfectly to the style and the characters. The props added to all of the events and scenes. I wouldn’t have changed a thing about this play.
